Squiggee's Corner !

Just for the record , not all the creative stuff that happens in Squiggeeland , takes place in the studio....The CEO, Miss Squiggee-Buns Hendrix...does not have the normal boardroom ,where a think tank meets...but rather a corner ,with her own chair ( short to the floor) for obvious comfort...because, Squiggee has sort little legs. A custom chair pad that is shaped much like a dog bed ,was ordered and a back rest pad, because Squiggee likes a closed in back while she is deep in thought....keeps the creative juices flowing, you know.....
To the left of her chair, is her custom fleece covered stairs ,so she can sit in the window and see what is up in Squiggeeland at any given moment...a must for such a creative pooch....
The hard and fast rule in Squiggeeland is that no person is allowed to sit in her chair and please a big no...no...do not put anything ,like a magazine or sweater or any object in her chair....

and ....how do we know when our fearless leader Miss Squiggee is having a deep creative moment...out comes one foot that needs it's own space...she is really cooking on all burners....

Tacky Bob !! that's it

No tacky Bob...isn't a new Squiggee frog..but that is a thought...it is the sticky case that a friend sent me for beading...yes it does take a little more time than just having the beads in a little cup...but I am constantly spilling beads ..I have bought every conceivable container...for storage of beads...the best being the ones ,that lock the individual compartments...as long as they unlock...I had to pry one section open with a screw driver ...only to have bead explosion...oh well......anything that helps reduce the escaping bead population is OK with me...vacuuming in my house after a beading session sounds like I'm vacuuming the gravel driveway.........my only thing is ......tacky Bob needs to be bigger...I certainly am getting an education on stitching with all kinds of fibers......................
what to do to organize the stash...it looks to me ......like I need to hire someone... i wish all the fibers came on cards... the worst....DMC ......once it gets out of it's little tube ...telling you the color..it just runs amok..the Satin floss the worst...i am going to have to make my own cards to wrap the stuff so it doesn't wind up a big gnarled ball...as I repeat..I need to hire the stash lady...her job will be to know exactly .....what I have.... how much I have ....the color...and be able to give me the exact information at any time .......at any given moment...total recall.......A+organizational skills .... now back to reality..........but really...I have to do something .......it is quickly becoming a confused mess...maybe the stash lady ...can wear two hats ?????? she can be...... the bead/charm/ribbon/feather lady...the feathers now have their own chest draw...to think ...that Squiggee started with on little paw print brass charm...lol...this is the way it always goes with me.......

Mr. Slide is on the move...

I decided that the only way to see how my little new turtle pattern would look when done...
I painted Mr. Slide on 18st and started to work him.....since the pattern has a lot of start and stop....i decided to use a wide variety of fibers...sparkle, shiny, matte ...everything but the kitchen sink, to make the little guy a little more Squiggee like...it has given him a depth that he didn't possess before...he is rich, in trio, vineyard classic silk, snows, glitterati, DMC floss, DMC satin floss, Krenik metallic and now I am going to add some Mandarin floss ..... that my pals in WA sent me to try.......oh my I am becoming a fiber junkie...you just can't take a wool stitcher and give her all this new stuff to pick from....I am a little bit of a tart...I love them all...they are rich in colors and finishes..it makes a very simple stitcher like myself look good....I am getting use to how much harder they are to use than wool...lol...but my stash is slowly getting out of control....I love it......and best of all...I don't have to use a frame...us old girls, like to roll and squish our canvases....things are really bad ...i am looking into different needles..... a friend even sent me a little case ,you open lined in sticky something ...that you can throw your beads on and then you can get one at a time with your needle...they stick so well..i could bead while being tossed out a plane...you would have to literally toss me...lol...I am having a silly day...

Lobster on a stick !!!!

Since my Blue crabby on a stick..LOL..has been popular out in WA state at the Needlepointer....a great shop ....
they had a request for a lobster , around the same size and the same sort of design treatment... so this is what I came up with and they seen pleased...my only question, will the stick go into the side or up his bottom....... sorry no good way to describe that one..lol...
I am a big fan of the lobster...with melted butter...I don't know if i could handle this little guy on a stand in plain view at my house...I would crave lobster all the time...and here in rural PA that is like whistling in the wind...so sad....

New Squiggee Frog

This is an example of cart before the horse....Lynda Richardson, Dream House Ventures
, my new wholesale distributor of Squiggee Designs, found this great silver and rhinestone skull and crossbones charm, and sent it to me....and I designed this new little Witch Frog...Named
Witchy Bitchy Frog ( a Squiggeeland name for sure), so the charm would have a great home...
lol...much easier to find the charm and then design the canvas...
I love Christmas...but I have to admit , that Halloween is my favorite holiday...lo..
I guess I am a " Whitchy Bitchy" at heart...lol

Big Bird...Little Bird

OK...here is what happened...all my birds are designed first on 13st...and I have kept them all around the same size...different shapes but all comparable......this way...it gives me the versatility to go up or down in size without the bird getting so big that it looks like it will carry off the family
cat...lol....the blue bird pictured ,is worked on 10st and the goldfinch on 13st....so my next model will be a little bird worked on 18st...and of course the beautiful finishing was done by the very talented ladies at Stitchery Square in Camden , Maine...a link on this page....and the stands by
my husband, Ken...a group effort that seems to work...
But Sadly again...these little guys went to Texas...and then on to the show circuit, to promote
Squiggee Designs...at least I get the joy of seeing the models in person finished , before they leave on their adventures......

Emperor Ming

I just finished this bag insert...for a A sterling black leather bag.....I took my rollie design..made him less wide and taller...added a little more colors and changed the beads on his shoes to pearls....and there you go...he flew out of here this morning for El Paso...where he will be put in a bag and then off on his travels to shows...I did enjoy going wild with the gold...too much you say...oh well...after all he is an Emperor and was created and worked in Squiggeeland ..where bling is very popular...sadly you lose so much of the actual sparkle in pictures...in the flesh...lol....he really shines...I'm afraid I am finding it hard ,to resist fibers that sparkle...oh well
he is 18st and stands around 6.25 high

A finished rug

I just received, this wonderful picture of a rug ,I did for a very talented stitcher, Inez...
I am so impressed when I see a large project finished in such record time....many big projects I have painted, I suspect never make it to completion...I can understand that...being the fan of the quick stitching project ....but I do love needlepoint rugs ...... it is rare to see one completed...at least in my lifetime...
many are half finished in a trunk I fear, waiting for the next generation to take a crack at it...lol...
I am always so pleased to get a photo of a finished design..
FYI....this lovely lady has a house full of completed needlepoint rugs....my hero!

Candy Cane Gingerbread House

This little Gingerbread came home over a week ago...the first house in my Squiggee series I have ever seen finished in person...it has been all over to shows and finally home to me....but just for the briefest visit....it is off to El Paso ,Texas and then onto Dallas...so I thought I would have a photo shoot to remember it's brief visit...I really hate letting it go, but after all ,the little house has a job...promoting other little houses.....and more model there will be, so that all the pressure won't be on this one little lone house...lol....
FYI...the amazing stitching on this little house was done by one of the original Squiggers.....
Cynthia Thomas...that has been a fan and a big help to me when I started Squiggee ,with great tips on vendors and the business in general....funny what a big part Texas has played in Squiggee's life as a fledgling line and now Texas is where Squiggee has a home/distributor...
lol...life is just funny sometimes...

Tis The Season

The real organized hard core stitchers ...are already hard at it ..getting to work on their Christmas projects...Custom stockings are always an real experience for the designer...taking so many aspects that are important to a customer and managing to get everything into one stocking sometimes is no for the faint of heart....this customer had a real specific plan....and all the elements meant something special to her.....

Squiggee Promised !...Today She Delivers The Good News !

When I woke this morning , the sun was shinning and the birds were singing...A perfect morning !
So perfect , that my CEO ,Little Squiggee-Buns ( the Boston terrier)...said..
" Hey , lets break out the good news."

As a continuously working artist for over 37 years , creating needlepoint canvases, it gives me great pleasure to announce ,that, Squiggee Designs and Gail C Hendrix Designs, has found a new home...or what is know in the wholesale business as.......
A new distributor, Dream House Ventures, based out of El Paso, Texas... run by a powerhouse of a lady, Lynda Richardson.

Lynda's style, attention to detail, appreciation of the painted canvas , all with unbridled enthusiasm, is just what I have been looking for .

The future is as bright as the sun, and Squiggee.......AKA Gaily ,is very happy.
This blog will give you all that is new and happening,as our venture progresses.... along with anything I think might be interesting......
...the blog's new title...Squiggeeland " avec torque"....Squiggeeland with a twist...
