I love Toile...this is a french style of Printed material...What I love about it , is two fold...the simplicity of the design, yet how the variation of the lines can make for a very complicated design..you achieve all your shading by the thickness or thinness of a line. The line ,and how it moves is so basic to creating an image and works so well in needlepoint, when shading with a vast array of colors is time consuming to paint ,expensive to reproduce and a Bitch to work...Toile has a very strong clean crisp look to it and so does basic needlepoint when it is kept on point, meaning stitch painted...you can't split a stitch ( unless you are painting on the dreaded Penelope Canvas )..it is just one color , one stitch, so I find anything that is this precise , the canvases just loves it...
the above pieces are the use of only one color ,the canvas and the varying line...basic and beautiful to me as a needlepoint artist...not for everyone , but that is what makes the world go round !!!
