For a born and breed Washingtonian, the experience of driving across Kansas was an eye opener............on the east coast there are tiny pockets of open space out in the country...but nothing to compare with hitting the plains . Miles and miles of open rolling land marked only by fences and the odd farm...with some small pockets of trees.....they land has taken on it's winter colors ......beautiful golds and rust reds..that seem to make the sky more blue....the one thing that struck me hard was the thought of how the pioneers walked beside there wagons virtually the same trek as we drove...having babies , sickness, and the threat of Indians....OK I can see walking the endless plains ..but let me tell you that when they came face to face with the rocky mountains....someone must of said .."OH SHIT !"....they are truly formidable...they are right outside my window...and i will take some snaps . I have seen all this on film and nothing prepares you for this in person. There is already snow on the top of the mountains so truly this time of year is out to cross. It just amazes me that anyone even thought of crossing the dam things in the first place. It was all I could do to not bitch about the endless drive to get here from PA.
The studio is moving along and should be up and running by the first of the week. Amazing how much stuff I have for work. The air is thin here and dry and we are at a way higher elevation than PA. so we have to pace ourselves and take breaks. You get tired easily.
There are so many things you have to take care of with a move..finding a vet, hairdresser, dog groomer, dentist ..gynocolgist....bank... car registration ...the list goes on and on. Next week we have to get new mattresses and new cell phones ............you have the feeling you will never be organized
again...................or die trying...I know drama Queen....I have actually been trying my best not to
be a bitch...lol...I hate change and moving...but that is a moot point since I am here already...so I am trying to suck it up and be brave......with an occasional whine thrown in just to make me feel better...lol...the dogs on the other hand seem to be doing great...la DE DA...hey have no job or responsibility......poop...today would be a great day to be a dog......

I saw the picture and immediately thought Kansas -- so flat!
I'm a born and bred western Pennsylvanian, so I prefer non-flat landscapes, but what shocked me moving out here (and often still does 30+ years later) is the sheer scale of things in the West. PA mountains, I thought were big, but the Rockies are HUGE! PA valleys are nicely people-sized, but you can see across, but the Plains go on for ages.
But I do love that Colorado landscape.
